[On-demand Webinar] How does the CVD prevention agenda sit within the NHS Long-term plan? Part 2

Heart and circulatory disease, also known as cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the cause of a quarter of all UK deaths and largest cause of premature mortality in deprived areas. Early detection and treatment, combined with a focus on prevention, is a key priority in the NHS Long-term plan, identified as the single biggest area where the NHS can save lives over the next 10 years, with the potential to prevent up to 150,000 heart attacks, strokes and dementia cases.

Greater public awareness of CVD will play a central role in the prevention strategy and the identification of patient cohorts likely to be most at risk will facilitate early intervention programmes, with an emphasis on lifestyle improvements. Anonymised GP patient data feeding into a new national CVD prevention audit will aid Primary Care Networks and other NHS organisations in directing activity.

Our free webinar will provide an examination of how the CVD prevention agenda sits within the NHS Long-term plan, and discuss the critical role that partners will play in the delivery of this ambitious programme.

Speakers:
Dr Matt Kearney is NHS England’s National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and a GP in Shropshire. Since 2013 he has been leading efforts to develop programmes to improve primary and secondary prevention of CVD. Wil Woan is the CEO of Heart Valve Voice, a UK charity dedicated to increasing the awareness of heart valve disease. His lobbying work has provided an opportunity for the charity to work with policy makers to look at improving NICE guidelines for valve disease patients and he is also leading the development of a European awareness day in 2018 increasing awareness not only in the UK, but in Europe as well.
