NHS finances in Scotland to come under additional scrutiny

Is the NHS in Scotland financially sustainable?

Opposition politicians have called for more transparency about NHS finances in Scotland amid concerns about accountability and reporting.

Health Secretary Shona Robison has announced that the Scottish Government will provide monthly information about NHS boards’ finances, and that more information would be published about the finances of health and social care integration authorities.

Conservative health spokesman Miles Briggs called on Ms Robison to commit to a review of integration authorities so that their financial position could be better understood, their effectiveness assessed, and to see whether reform was needed.

The integration authorities came into force last year as part of attempts to provide better joint working between health and social care.

Labour and the Liberal Democrats have called for Ms Robison to resign, saying she has presided over a series of failings in the health service.
